Recipe to Make 100% Natural Lipsticks
When I started making makeup, I started with lipsticks, as lipsticks are something that we ingest and a person who wears lipstick daily will ingest a couple of kilograms in their lifetime. Lipsticks are usually coloured with FC&D dyes and have so many chemicals added
Its not funny!
Here is a natural alternative:
Ingredients:
Beeswax 3g
Candelilla wax (a natural plant wax) 5g
Shea butter 5g
Jojoba oil 20g
Castor oil 20g
Vitamin E 3 drops or 1 dollop!
Method:
Melt the above ingredients in a small heat resistant glass measuring jug placed in boiling water
(double boiler)
When completely melted, add the colourants (I suggest to use one of the recipes below to start with) and mix well.
Pour into lip balm tubes, small makeup pots or a lipstick mould.
Allow to harden in the refrigerator for ½ hour before use.
This recipe base is enough to make 8 -12 lipsticks depending on the size of the pot or tube
Here are three lipstick colours to choose from:
Recipes to make lipstick, cosmetic pencils and lip balms, using our pre-made lipstick and cosmetic pencil bases.
Lipstick recipe
Melt 9g of either of the bases in a small pyrex beaker (1 minute in the microwave approx.)
Once completely melted simply add 1 heaped teaspoon of any of the impact coloured pigments or micas into the melted wax/oil and stir well.
Immediately pour into a lip balm tube, pot or a lipstick mould (makes 2 to 3 lipsticks in the mould). Place in the fridge for 10 minutes and is available for immediate use.
Lipstick Pencil Recipe
Prepare the pencil by gluing or placing the end cap onto the pencil. (if you have a pencil mould, then this is done after the filling of the pencil)
Melt 9g of base no 2 in a small pyrex beaker (1 minute in the microwave approx.)
Once completely melted simply add 1 heaped teaspoon of any of the impact coloured pigments or micas into the melted wax/oil and stir well.
Immediately syringe or pour into the pencil, hold upright for 1 minute for the wax/ oil to harden then place on its side in the fridge. (if you spill over the edge in the filling process, don't panic! It can easily be cleaned up later). The pencil can be sharpened easily the next day. If using a mould, there is no need for sharpening.
100g of the pre-made lipstick base makes between 10 to 20 lipsticks depending on container used.
454g / 1lb of pre-blended lipstick base and 100g of colour pigment of choice makes between 60 to 100 lipsticks.
Lip Balm Recipe
Melt in a small glass pyrex jug (ideally a 250ml jug), 50g of base No 1.
Optional: add a "dollop" 2ml approx of Carrot root oil, you can add up to 20 drops more of organic sweet orange or mandarin essential oil to make an orange lip balm.
Additionally you can add 1/2 tsp of any of the micas or impact coloured pigments ie:
For a shimmer lip balm: Add 1/2 tsp. ultra shimmer mica (can be added to the orange lip balm or by itself)
For a red/pink lip balm add 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of true red or peachy red mica, for an added sparkle add 1/4 tsp ultra shimmer mica.
Immediately pour into a lipstick mould for a professional lipstick or into a lip balm tube or pot and leave to cool.
